Since our regularly scheduled meetings as well as our show have been canceled due to COVID-19, keeping in touch with other members and seeing what they are carving has become a challenge. An idea emerged from a text conversation Karlene Kilmer was having with Gerry Canavan and Mark Goodman: Gerry mentioned that he was going to complete 10 carvings from his shelf of half-finished carvings and texted a picture, Karlene responded by sharing a picture of her half-finished carving shelf, and Mark did the same. Karlene as the PPW Social Media Coordinator then posted these pictures on the PPW Instagram and Facebook pages with the hashtag #cleartheshelves and an idea was born. Gary Fenton joined in by emailing a picture of his shelf and gave what we were doing the name of the Corona Carving Challenge (#CoronaCarvingChallenge).
Please join in the fun and email pictures of what you are doing to [email protected]. If you have sent in a picture and have not seen your work posted on Instagram or Facebook yet, you are in the queue and will be posted in the order in which your pictures were received. Typically, there only are 1-2 postings per week made to ensure everyone’s carving has time to be seen by followers before adding the next post, therefore it might be a bit before it’s your turn. Please be patient. You can see posts on our Instagram page @pikespeakwhittlers and our Facebook page facebook.com/pikespeakwhittlers. You also can access both our Instagram and Facebook pages from links on this website. Participating in the Corona Carving Challenge is just one little way in which we all can stay connected in this trying and unpredictable time. Stay safe, let the chips fly, and send in your pictures!
