Show Rules and Regulations
1.Competition will be OPEN COMPETITION. That is, we will award ribbons in each category for Novice carvers. Minimum point levels may apply to Intermediate and Advanced. You may compete in only one skill level. 2.Table space and electricity is limited. Reservations are taken on a “first-come-first-served” basis. 3.All tables must be manned during all show hours. Please do not dismantle exhibits before 4:00 p.m. Sunday. 4.All exhibitors must provide their own table covering. Table covers must cover the top and three sides of the table, reaching to the floor. No staples, pins, or tape shall be used on the tables, except tape supplied by the Pikes Peak Whittlers. 5.You must be registered with at least a ½ table space and be present to be eligible to enter the competition. No more than two entrants per space. Participants of “Guest Tables” (free tables offered to promote other clubs) are not eligible to compete. 6.A limit of two entries, per category, per individual is allowed. The cost per entry is $4.00 or unlimited entries for $20.00 (still only two entries per category) for all adult carvers. Under 18, the cost to enter is free. 7.Entries must be completely and solely the work of the individual, including the carving, woodburning, painting, etc. and must have been completed during the past year. All entries will be of wood, except for the Gourd division. Carvings from rough-outs are permitted only in the Rough Out category (9A). Novice and Intermediate carvers may enter pieces they completed as part of a class in the Class Piece category (9B). 8.Entries may be unfinished, painted, clear finished, burned, or any combination thereof. 9.Cast metal or plastic bills are not permitted. Metal cast legs are permitted only in the NOVICE category. 10.Glass eyes and metal/epoxy handmade legs are permitted, and metal/epoxy handmade deer or elk antlers are permitted. 11.If there are fewer than two carvings in a category, the carving may be moved to a related category, or to the open category, at the discretion of the judges. 12.The judges’ determinations are made to the Pikes Peak Whittlers standards and will not be subject to review. 13.Disputes regarding which category an entry will be placed in will be the responsibility of the entry judges, in accordance with entry standards. Judges may change an entry to a category that they deem more appropriate. 14.Regarding the carvings on the Awards Table: DON’T TOUCH the carvings on the awards table even if they belong to you. Items can be sold but they can’t be touched or removed from the Awards Table until 4:00 p.m. on Sunday. 15.Ribbons won at any other show/competition may not be displayed at this show – only ribbons won at this show. 16.Entries for the competition will be called for on Saturday morning, by division, in accordance with a published schedule. 17.All competition applicants must declare their skill level classification on their competition entry registration application. 18.Please observe the NO SMOKING signs. 19.In order to maintain a certain standard for the show, the show chairman, or officers of Pikes Peak Whittlers, may request that the show chairman remove anything that is objectionable in carving, wording, or presentation. This pertains to items on display at your table as well as items on the Awards Table.
